Desoto Canyon Movies
This archive contains movies of daily averaged subtidal upper and lower
layer velocites and temperatures from the two year long Desoto Canyon Eddy
Intrusion Study. Additionally, similar movies of hourly data for
the periods when Hurricanes Georges and Earl crossed the coastline of the
Panhandle are included. Velocity profile data files from the upper
layer ADCP's, in USGS's vpv format, are provided for the Hurricane periods
for use with the vpv
interactive animation program, developed by USGS. The vpv files are
provided as a gzipped tar archive. The ADCP instrument ID's are
indicated in the filenames, and mooring positions and further details
are given here.
fli animations can be viewed with
xanim (unix & linux), Apple's
Quicktime
(Macintosh OS and Windows), or PowerFliC
(Windows). The
animations are fairlly self-explanatory, however, the tracks of the center
pressures of the hurricanes are indicated by the purple lines such that
the leading point is position of the center at the time of the frame and
the remainder of the line represents the track over the previous 10 days.
